Activ RunFit

A clinic for runners!

Activ Runfit clinic by trained physiotherapists

Are you a keen runner? Suffer from niggling injuries? Want to improve your running style? We can help!

Running is an activity that has gained an increase in popularity for several years and millions of people run weekly in England. From fell running, ultra-marathons and athletics to park runs, jogging and road running, any person can take part.

Benefits of running include weight loss, improved mood and reduced risk of illness such as heart disease and stroke. Unfortunately, injury can be a pitfall of running due to the large stresses put through the body every time a step is taken, which could be around 10,000 steps in a 10km run. Plus, a person with an existing problem such as arthritis or low back pain may find that running may irritate their problem.

At Activ, our clinic for runners ‘RunFit’ can be useful if you need help or advice.
Our physiotherapists can assess your strength and mobility and analyse your technique through video in our gym treadmill or outdoors. This way you can have your stride mechanics, impact levels and upper body position evaluated, and advised of any beneficial changes which should hopefully reduce risk of injury and potentially improve performance. If treatment is required, this can also be provided as part of the service.

Activ Golf Fit

Do you play regular golf? Suffer from niggling pains playing golf? Or want to prevent golf related injuries? Our Activ Golf fit service is for you!

The golf swing is a complex, precise movement that requires a level of strength, mobility and stability. The cumulative forces involved in a golf swing have the potential to cause injury. Activ Physiotherapy has worked with PGA trained golf coaches to develop a 10-point screening tool that assesses your ability levels and how "Fit for Golf" you are. This is used to develop a treatment programme targeted at you and hopefully allow you to develop the characteristics required for an ideal swing to prevent injuries from occurring and ensuring you get the most out of your golf.

What increases your risk of injury?

  • Reduced joint range of movement and muscle length. This can cause stiffness and pain

  • Reduced control at the abdominal and gluteal (core) muscles leading to more rapid fatigue and possible injury

  • Poor consistency of swing over the course of a week

  • Poor stance in the address position resulting from stiffness, reduced control, muscle tension and possibly pain
