Our 2024 Review of the Year
Hello everyone and welcome to the final edition of our InterActiv magazine in 2024. This has been yet another busy year for us and we thank you for your support and lovely feedback. We are all so proud to be part of the local community and hope to continue making a difference to so many people’s lives.
This year we feel we have reached our target of providing personalised, hands-on care using the latest evidence and have built on our range of specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapy services. Rob has gained a good reputation in the rehabilitation and treatment of adolescent athletes. Suvarna’s women’s health service is getting increasingly busy and George has built on her specialism in TMJ temporo-mandibular joint assessment and treatment.
Helen continued juggling her work at Activ in Hope with her role as lead neuro physiotherapist at Northern General hospital and teaching acupuncture for Breeze Academy. Sujay has worked hard towards a specialism in shockwave therapy and Andy continues to have success with the service for runners (Activ RunFit) and golfers (Activ GolfFit). Our sports massage clinic has been successfully run by Debbie and we have taken on another pair of (massage) hands. Katie started at the Totley clinic in June this year and has established herself well as a member of the sports therapy team.
As well as Katie, we had some more new faces added to the team. Annette started back in April, covering two days per week in Hope and is a brilliant administrator, helping with policy and HR in the clinic. In Totley, we had Holly start in September. She is running the Activ Home service, providing physiotherapy in the home. This has been a common request in the past and we are pleased to now offer that service on a regular basis. We also have the return of a face that may be familiar to some of you. Our old director, Clare returns to the team this month, managing the Activ Work service providing advanced display screen equipment and workplace assessments.
We have also said goodbye to a few people this year. Morag, our physiotherapist in Totley, moved to a clinic closer to where she lives. Hester, one of our admin team in Hope left to go travelling before starting her physiotherapy undergraduate degree at York university. Marianne Sharpe will be leaving us at the end of the year to build her practice as a mobile sports massage therapist and we wish her well. How can we forget her Dragon Race pep talks?!! This means that there is an 'exciting opportunity for someone to join our team out in Hope as sports massage therapist.' as our advert states!
We also have a few achievements to be proud of this year. George and Sujay recently got quality assured practitioner status through Physio First, which is the special interest group for physiotherapists in private practice. This awards Hope with quality assured clinic status. We finished second place in the annual Theo’s dragon boat race in June, losing in the final by only one second and raising over £1,400. Our clinic in Hope also came second in the annual Hope wakes week festival, ‘best dressed business.’
Finally, we would like to thank all our administrators for keeping the clinic running efficiently every day. Lorna, the manager of the admin team (and Andy) at Totley and the person we all turn to if we have a question. Annette, Jackie and Nora, who always have a smile on their face and make reception the friendly welcoming place it is. Zara, for her hard work managing all the admin and bookkeeping in Hope, and keeping George organised too. In addition to Zara’s multiple roles and, with the help of Cheryl, they keep on top of the marketing of Activ and provide this amazing newsletter.
Festive wishes to you all and all the best for a happy, healthy 2025.
Andy and George xx
