Why Faye Believes In Reconnecting With Nature And Walking Your Way Back To Health
Walking aficionado Faye Smith, founded Hope Walking after multiple bereavements and losses and discovered the 'medicinal' power of walking. More recently, through her training with the British Pilgrimage Trust, she has discovered the power of 'walking as pilgrimage' and has grown to love the Celtic definition of 'pilgrimage' as 'Whatever happens on this journey through life.'
The Sheffield businesswoman said: 'Walking has helped me keep going through the toughest of times and find a new way forward.'
Faye provides walking journeys for women and men in different environments and locations and firmly believes in the latin phrase Solvitar Ambulando. which means, 'It Is solved by walking'.
'I organise modern day pilgrimages that give you the time and opportunity to reconnect with nature and the environment and to reconnect with yourself. Time to literally walk your way back to better mental and physical health to restore, revive and reinvigorate your world.'
She reveals that studies of walkers show reduced BMI, lower blood pressure and chloresterol and a higher sense of acceptance and belonging. She references author Annabel Streets whose 'brilliant' book '52 Ways To Walk' ponders the power of walking pilgrimages and cites that walking in natural greenery has been shown to lower cortisol, reduce stress and the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and premature death.
